Поссорился Иван Иванович с Иваном Никифоровичем, то есть хаддисты с хилсонистами, хэмероняне - опять же с хилсонистами. Только чейзеры молчали и смотрели исподлобья. Всего лишь один раз в морду дали.
Но это к слову.
И к нему же: приятно прочитать хороший отзыв, изложенные не в спешке мысли, да вообще - мысли прочитать, а не просто стоны: "Мыыыло!" и "Больше не хочу смотреть эту гадость!" А на фоксе и вовсе тему завели - "Тупые сценаристы!"
Как правило, тексты с аргументами нечасты, что в русском фандоме, что в английском.
Под катом текст на английском. Я знаю, то есть не знаю, язык в школьно-принудительном объеме, но, думаю, есть еще такие же страдальцы. Поэтому основные положения неведомого автора переведу. Если меня кто-нибудь поправит, буду благодарна.

There is a reason I see the show losing viewers, and I know this will not be popular on this board.

First, let me say that I love the show. Hugh is the best actor who ever lived. I love Lisa, Robert, Jennifer and Jesse and Omar when he is not with 13.

When I watched Broken, I saw a very different House than we have gotten in the most recent episodes. House was less physically animated in facial expression and body language. We saw a more introspective House, where his more static face and body gave us volumes of information. House was not so animated physically in the first season, and that is the one I like best. Rather than allowing us to interpret what House is thinking and feeling, Hugh is animating it too much in facial expressions and body language. I don't feel like I see into his soul when everything is coming out on his face or with his body. When he does add a little bit animation to his non-animated acting, that animation contains much more significance to the dialogue, the character and the story.

Hugh has the talent to do both-animated and non-animated acting. Starting in the second season, he added much more animation to the character, and it was at this time that I started losing a part of House's soul. We occasionally get returns of this more pensive character, and this is when my heart goes out to him.

Less is more. I lose much of what he is trying to emphasize when he is too animated. In Broken, I could see many more dimensions in the character because Hugh graded the animation to a much greater degree. I complained a lot in seasons 4 and 5 that House had gotten one-dimensional. When House was trying to change this season, I could see the inner struggle in his non-animated expressions more than in the animated ones. Hugh’s greatest talent, to me, is that he can reveal so much about the character using a still face and body. When he walked up the steps to Cuddy’s house but did not go in, his relatively still facial expression spoke volumes.

House was returned back to a raw state where he was vulnerable in Broken. We had glimpses of this in early episodes this season, and I enjoyed that a lot. House does not have to be vulnerable all of the time. I do want to see that he feels some of the consequences of his actions, as we saw in early episodes this season. House returned to a mean, animated b@$t@rd in the episode where he broke up Chase and Cameron. I saw no redeeming quality to his character in that episode. He knew he was going to split them up, because he actively pursued 13 and Taub while he actively worked Cameron and Chase against each other. He said early on in the episode that he was going to have “3 out of 4” or “4 out of 5” of his team back. You can say that House was trying to get Chase to see Cameron’s real motives in forgiving him; I see it as self-serving mettling in a place he had no right to be.
The show feels re-tread in many ways now. Returning characters, the Huddy back and forth, Wilson as matchmaker, the old team returns, the new team leaves and returns, 14, Taub’s marriage issues-all of these things make the show seem like it is treading water rather than growing.

Broken was a brilliant because there were new characters. Alvie was a breath of fresh air. Dr. Nolan was authoritative and genuine. Lydia brought out new emotions in House we have never seen before. These characters breathed new life into the show. TPTB have been trying to do this by bringing back old characters and giving House new or over-worked plotlines, but there was little oxygen left in the tank. Without new characters, the new plotlines aren’t really working for me. I can only hope that getting rid of Cameron will bring in a fresh face with the acting ability to be on this show.

When they tried to bring in new characters in season 4, they failed to bring in ones that inspired the existing characters and the fans. Other than Amber and Scooter and maybe Cole, none of the 30 actors they hired brought any new energy into the show. Kutner got some gas in the tank as he went along, but I would not call his character enlightening. Taub and 13 have been an energy drain on the show since their first scenes. Contrast them to Alvie, who was inspiring, energetic, challenging and must-watch from his first words. Lydia, with her calm demeanor and introspective nature, immediately brought out some part of House we had not seen. Dr. Nolan was a force House had to reckon with; this is what Cuddy used to be. Superhero brought out a fun side of House. Even Vogler, from season one, and Tritter, from season three, brought new challenges to House. We have not had a character do that since Tritter (other than Broken).

If you take Grey's Anatomy, for instance, they have rotated a lot of new characters in to keep the show fresh. (The return of Denny was not a good move.) The characters on Grey’s each have individual energy that is lacking in some on House. None of the characters on Grey’s is as individually compelling as the original six on House. But, each member of their cast has something that makes them unique interesting to watch. Some characters and relationships on House I find as interesting as cardboard.

The show has dropped the ball on character issues. The rapid ridding of Cameron was an injustice to the character. In the first few seasons, House was never cruel. Cuddy was not either. They were clever. Now, I find both of them cruel at times, House much more than Cuddy. Clever has been sacrificed in so many ways on the show that it has lost that sense of wonderment. Now, the only clever we get is when House has his epiphany, and that has not been mind-bending recently either.

House is still my favorite show, and I still look forward to watching it, but not as much as I used to. I think they are down to a core number of viewers who will watch every week. They were not able to keep the extra viewers who saw Broken. I think I am like a lot of viewers who still watch; I am hoping for a new, consistent lifeline in the show that will peak my interest and make House must-watch viewing again. In the meantime, I watch to get glimpses of brilliant acting, directing and stories that will hold me for the week. If only House was “Broken” every week. I want more of that House character.

3. Возвращение старого состава - неудачная мысль. Топтание на месте. В "Анатомии Грейс" все время меняется актерский состав, и это поддерживает энергетику сериала. В "Хаусе" сценаристы попытались вернуть утраченную энергетику возвратом старой команды, и это им не удалось. Хорошо хоть Кэмерон ушла - какое-то движение!
Тауб и 13 не несут полезной функции, только вытягивают энергетику из шоу.
Куча народу из 4 сезона не дала в этом плане ничего, все оказались пустышки, кроме Эмбер, Скутера и Коула.
4. В "Broken" были великолепные персонажи - Нолан, Лидия, Алви. Они, как и Воглер, и Триттер, были полезны тем, что каждый бросал Хаусу вызов, не давая застаиваться ему, как характеру.
